Design is influenced by many things. Now that Venerari has a clear approach to designing jewellery and a strong loyal client base both locally and abroad, it is illuminating to invite other designers to work with us. Working with others is a way of borrowing their way of seeing, in turn learning more about our own work. We aim to broaden the extent of these collaborations to include other artists and sculptors.

Venerari launches new collection in collaboration with Australian Jeweller Diane Appleby

We have launched our first collaborative collection with renowned independent Australian jeweller Diane Appleby. The Appleby Collection is the first in a series of partnerships between venerari and other celebrated Australian jewellery designers.

Diane Appleby is a Sydney-based jewellery designer and maker with more than 20 years experience in the industry. She exhibits her work both nationally and internationally to great acclaim. Hallmarks of Dianes handmade jewellery include design, colour and remarkable craftsmanship. Her work is undeniably bold and sensuous.

Genevieve, architect and jewellery designer at venerari, and Diane Appleby bring together their respective architectural and artistic backgrounds to create a distinctive collection of handmade rings featuring coloured gemstones and opal. The rings organic shapes are designed to celebrate the asymmetrical nature of natural opal and echo some of the unique forms found in marine life.

Diane and Genevieve greatly enjoyed, and learnt from, the process of working together. The resulting pieces are, by the two designers admissions, strange and beautiful objects that neither would normally tend towards in their own design work. They are playful, and celebrate both the diversity of opal and the innovation of pairing it with complementary or contrasting gems. As Diane says Contrast plays an important part in my work. I choose materials and forms which, when combined, accentuate each others properties.

Says Genevieve of the collaboration, The chance to design and develop pieces with one of Sydneys finest independent modern jewellers has been an extraordinary experiment in the meeting of quite different minds and backgrounds. To work in this way has proven that each designer can push the other towards remarkable collective results by discussing obscure sources of inspiration and the dramatic effect of the finest adjustments.
